8th Season of Smallville Officially Announced

Smallville has been a tremendous success for The WB and now The CW. The first episode aired in 2001 and we are currently in the midst of the 7th season. I was a late comer to Smallville and started watching before the 4th season aired. I love the comic book genre of movies and TV but I didn't know the show even existed until someone told me that Smallville was about Superman. Ironically, when I found out about the show they were about to start playing repeats starting from the 1st episode and catching up to where the 3rd season left off.

Yes, the show is slightly corny sometimes but I chose to ignore that because it's Superman. The premise of the show is the story of Clark Kent growing up in Smallville before he actually becomes the tight wearing superhero. The show was built around the relationship between Clark and his parents, friends and the infamous Lex Luthor. At the start of the series Clark and Lex were close friends which was actually pretty interesting. As the season's progressed their relationship became tenuous at best. Meteor Rock (Kryptonite) also was a significant part of the show because as we all know it is Superman's only weakness but it also had numerous effects on other characters in the show that made things interesting throughout the series.

Yes, I am purposely writing as if the show no longer exists because I am not sure Smallville will make it past an 8th season. The last couple of season's the writers have really been reaching for straws. The introduction of other popular DC comic characters was a great addition to the story but they aren't around enough to make a difference. I guess the writers just want the show to revolve around Clark and not take the spotlight away from the emergence of Superman, which I suppose I can understand. Although, the other stories they have been coming up with aren't really that interesting. Yes, we know that Lex is bad, stop trying to convince us that he's not, it isn't working. Just let Clark fly already! Finally, I know a lot of people were anticipating Clark getting together with his High School crush, Lana Lang, but did you have to turn her into this Luthor spy and I think you better start breaking them apart because I don't think anyone will be satisfied if Clark doesn't start falling for Lois Lane by the time this series ends.
