I Love My iPhone

I couldn’t think of a better way to start off this Blog than to talk about my iPhone. I am not an Apple fanboy, I don’t even own an Apple computer. I actually went from a basic Nokia phone that was like a paperweight. My friends used to make fun of me because the phone was so old but I liked it because all I really cared about at the time was battery life. Well did I take an enormous leap into the latest cell phone technology with the iPhone.

The AT&T service is the worst part of the iPhone. We don’t have great cell coverage on Long Island with AT&T. I don’t really mind the Edge network that much but I am usually around a WiFi connection and that more than makes up for it. I luckily got the iPhone as a 30th birthday gift so I didn’t have to worry about the price tag of the device when it first came out. The iPhone was certainly not worth price it was before the reduction and rebate they handed out to previous owners. The phone is definitely priced appropriately now, albeit the cost of using the crappy AT&T cell network. I am very jealous of anyone that actually lives in an area where AT&T beats out Verizon.

Now onto the features. I have used the Safari browser too many times to even count and it is by far the best feature of the device. The user interface is so simple, which Apple has always been known for. I haven’t seen many people try my iPhone and actually have problems figuring out how to use it. The online applications that people have developed have been pretty good. I couldn’t live without Movies.app and SportsTap. I will even use my iPhone to look up movies before I would even use my computer. Beyond listening to music or occasionally watching videos, there really isn’t much more I use my iPhone for. I can’t wait until the new offline applications start rolling out because I think that is when even the iPhone killers being created will lose their coolness factor very quickly. Having games will be fun, especially with the accelerometer. The best applications will likely be the ones that nobody even thought of and will revolutionize the power of the iPhone.

If you can stand the AT&T network, the iPhone is amazing. The Blackberry is a very good device and I know a lot of people that love them but soon the iPhone will clobber the Blackberry. I know people really love their physical keyboards but really the keyboard on the iPhone is so easy to use once you get the hang of it. I can understand anyone that is waiting for 3G like speeds from AT&T or even opening the device to other networks. That should be the only stumbling block for anyone that can actually afford a high end phone.
