Juno Gets the Oscar from Me

Well Juno quickly became one of my favorite movies of all time. I understand the Oscar for best picture is given based upon many factors, other than likeability. I just don’t care as much about all those other factors. To me a movie lives and dies by the script and the acting. Too often cinematography and special effects play a more important role. With Juno, we received the best of my favorite characteristics.

Diablo Cody wrote an amazing script and truly deserved the Oscar that she won. The witty banter between Ellen Page and everyone else in Juno was hilarious and extremely creative. Teenage pregnancy was the main storyline in the movie and she not only respected the seriousness of the topic but delivered it in a surprisingly uncharacteristic manner.

Other than the script, Ellen Page was the heart and soul of this movie. She played the character Juno MacGuff with perfection. Juno was completely likeable, even though she was quite condescending throughout the movie. I know it is difficult to pay homage to a character because a lot of it has to do with the script itself but an actress still needs to pull it off in the end and Ellen did it in style. I look forward to seeing her in other roles as she matures as an actress.

I really don’t like to go into great detail about the movies I write about because I hate when people ruin them for me. Juno is definitely a must see for most people. The story, the dialogue, the acting and even the music provide the perfect package for a movie that will likely remain on the top of my list for quite a long time.
