Once Hits the Spot

I didn't have high expectations heading into watching Once for the first time. I heard it was a love story and that the music was a big part of the movie. Well, I was in for a treat.

Once is a low-budget movie about an aspiring singer/songwriter in Ireland that meets a girl from the Czech Republic and they embark on a musical journey together. I don't want to give too much away but once you get past the hard to understand dialog, you're left with a great diamond in the rough movie that almost anyone can enjoy.

You need to remember that the movie is extremely low-budget. Don't expect any special effects or high end cinema photography. The movie was filmed in Dublin in less than 17 days and cost less than $150K. The music is a huge part of this movie and Glen Hansard is an amazing musician in the movie and in real life. Marketa Irglova, the female lead, also is an excellent pianist and singer.

This is just great warm hearted movie that you can just sit back and enjoy. The music soothes the soul and the story conjures up all those warm and fuzzy feelings you would hope for in a love story. I highly recommend this movie to anyone.
